What is your job title? Restaurateur
What do you love about Melbourne?
I love the changing of the seasons, for example eating tender lamb shanks by a lovely open fire with a glass of red wine in winter and then looking to forward to summer and enjoying the long balmy evenings and sampling some beautiful fresh oysters and a glass of champagne. We are blessed with such a variety of cuisines here in Melbourne. It’s wonderful to be able to enjoy Italian food on Lygon Street and then for something different Vietnamese food on Victoria Street.
How long have you been in business? – Approximately 20 years, firstly with La Trattoria in Carlton, followed by Sammy’s Trattoria in St Kilda, then there was Sammy’s Italian Cuisine in Templestowe and currently I own Sammy’s Trattoria, Bar & Pizzeria in Brunswick
What do you think of Melbourne’s restaurants and cafes? – I think we are fortunate in Melbourne to have such a variety of cuisine to choose from and the standard is very high.
Where do you like to dine? The Waterfront Restaurant at Crown Casino – The seafood is always fresh and the ambience is perfect for celebrating that special occasion. Of course for the perfect pizza and authentic Italian cuisine you can’t beat Sammy’s on Sydney Road in Brunswick!
What makes Melbourne a great city for you? Melbourne has the best of everything. Beautiful historic old buildings, the spring racing carnival, a certain edginess, ie great street fashion, underground clubs and bars. It definitely is a livable city, not overcrowded but with plenty of space, fresh air and healthy parks and gardens.
What changes have you seen in Melbourne over the years? One of the major changes is the Docklands precinct, including the Eureka tower. A great incentive for tourists to come and visit our beautiful city.
Summarize Melbourne. Lots of fun, theatre, the arts, great fashion and beautiful beaches, parks and gardens and of course football. Go Blue Boys!!!!!!!
